The RMIT Student Union represents and advocates on behalf of 58,000 students at RMIT University. The Student Union, which is governed by an elected council of 25 students, also provides support to a variety of student clubs, societies and collectives. Collectives and campaigns
The Student Union comprises of several departments (Queer, Womyn’s, International Students, RMIT Postgraduate Association, Activities, Clubs and Societies and Environment), all of which are governed by student collectives/committees. These collectives are comprised of students, like you, who organise campaigns, put on fun events and support the Student Union.

Student Rights Advice Service
This free service assists all RMIT students facing difficulties with their studies, and those who are encountering problems with RMIT’s policies and procedures. The service also produces a range of information for students about their rights.

Clubs and Soceities
The Clubs and Societies Department of the Student Union provides support and assistance to students who are starting (or members of) academic, national based general insterest clubs. The Clubs and Societies Department is headed up by an elected Clubs and Societies Chair, and supported by a Clubs and Societites staff member. All RMIT students can join or start their own clubs, and the Student Union is always happy to assist.

Volunteer Program
The Student Union’s Volunteer Program provides students with the opportunity to support their Student Union and help other RMIT students. There are a range of areas in which RMIT students can volunteer – from providing student rights support and advocacy, to assisting events or supporting Student Union campaigns.

Safe spaces on campus
The Student Union provides several Womyn’s only and Queer only spaces on campus. These spaces exist for more than just eating lunch (although that’s ok too), by providing safe and relaxing areas for students to organise politically, talk over issues, hold meetings or simply make new friends.

Student Media.
RMIT University is unique in that is has its own mini-student media empire! You can get involved in Catalyst, the Student Union newspaper, RMITV, the Student Union’s television station (which broadcasts on Channel 31) or with SYN-FM, which evolved from RMIT Student Union’s old radio station, SRA.
