RMIT Student Union. Your Union, Your Voice.

The Queer Department exists at RMIT for all students who identify as gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgendered, intersex, queer, curious, or questioning their sexuality. The Student Union's Queer Department was created to help establish a more visible and safe queer culture on campus. Whilst the Queer Officers facilitate its activities, the Department's agenda is set by you, the students. This happens through the departments collective meetings.

The Queer Department is active in organising political campaigns and social events both on and off campus, and all queer students are welcome and encouraged to get involved.

Our Queer spaces are a place that you can access at all times, it’s a place that you can go to if you want to study, meet new friends or just to hang out. Any queer students are welcome to use the space, it doesn’t matter if you’re a local, international, TAFE, Undergraduate or Postgraduate student. To get involved you can either speak to your queer officers or just turn up to the spaces.

There are 2 Queer spaces on RMIT campuses: one at Swanston campus, Building 8, Level 3 (near the new Student Union front desk), and one at Bundoora campus, Building 202, level 2 (near the Hub).

We run regular meetings and events, so please come along to the lounges whenever you feel like, as we are always welcoming new members to the collective.

Queer Collective meetings are held weekly, on Wednesday afternoons at 4pm in the Swanston Campus Lounge.
If you cannot make the meetings, you can email us your suggestions, arrange to meet us at another time, or leave a suggestion in the suggestion box in the Swanston Lounge.
