Queer Department

Queer Department
The Student Union's Queer Department was created to help establish a more visible and safe queer culture on campus. Whilst the Queer Officers facilitate its activities, the Department's agenda is set by you, the students. This happens through the departments collective meetings. The Queer Department is active in organising political campaigns and social events both on and off campus, and all queer students are welcome and encouraged to get involved.

In 2008 we've got some exciting changes - bigger social events, bigger range of people and a big brand new space!
We will be co-ordinating the first ever cross-uni queer camp, that invites our friends from Monash and Deakin to get back to nature.
There will be exciting events to bring in a broader crowd and a sexy new space that's private and accessible to all queer students.

The Swanston St Queer Space is always open and can now be found in Building 8, Level 3 Room 3. It is a safe place for Gay,
Lesbian, Bi, Trans, Intersex, and curious students to meet, socialise or simply chill out.

Our weekly meetings will have alternate times and are open to all queers to share their ideas and vent their spleen to make 2008 even greater.
The queer department is a place that aims to be free of discrimination on the basis of race, disability and age. It aims to be free of sexism that is disturbingly pervasive in the queer community as it is in the wider society.
