The Wurundjeri people of the Kulin Nation are the traditional custodians of the land on which RMIT University is situated. The University is respectful of this and acknowledges the traditional owners of these lands by conducting a "welcome to country" ceremony by an Aboriginal elder at all formal ceremonies, such as Graduation.
RMIT funds a centre on the city campus specifically for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students. The Ngarara Willim Indigenous Centre provides facilities and services to Indigenous students from Building 89, located on Cardigan St.
The Ngarara Willim Indigenous Centre
If you are of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent, please contact the Ngarara Willim Indigenous Centre and let them know what they can do to help.
The centre facilities include:
* a student study area
* student computers with internet access
* photocopier and fax facilities
* kitchen and lounge facilities
* notice boards
* reference library for use by all RMIT students and staff
All Indigenous students can be given initial advice by Ngarara Willim Indigenous centre staff regarding cultural, academic, housing and scholarship assistance. Students interested in overseas study placements should also speak with staff.

Racism Sux
According to RMIT's Anti-Racism and Religious Tolerance policy RMIT is committed to:
* An environment where all staff and students are treated with dignity and respect and where diversity is valued.
* An environment that is non-discriminatory and free of offensive behaviour based on racial or religious vilification.
* A social environment where intercultural contact is facilitated.
* An intellectual environment which is free from bigotry, ethnocentrism, prejudice and racism.
The Student Union knows that racism, sexism and homophobia exist at RMIT and actively campaigns to make RMIT a safe and inclusive environment for all students.
If you believe that you have been treated differently or have been victimised in any way while studying at RMIT because of your Aboriginal heritage, you have the right to make a complaint.
A Student Union Rights Officer can provide you with information about the complaints process and assist you in this process.
